Katya Bourvis is an award winning Choreographer and Movement Director with an extensive international performance career (English National Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Royal Opera House.)
Commercially, Katya has worked extensively in branded content, promos and film. She’s sensitively draws the best performances out of both dancing and non-dancing talent, whilst intuitively developing each project’s creative identity. She’s passionate about creating kind, attentive and inclusive spaces.
In 2021, Katya was awarded an artist-in-residence at Sadler’s Wells and embarked on a series of short-form independent projects, shown on platforms including Nowness, Schön Magazine, Vogue, and SHOWstudio. She received her first commission for Ballet D’Jerri in 2026, creating her debut ballet Flux, and is currently developing a co-commission with the Barbican for performance in 2026.
Her signature is a kaleidoscopic imagination, building symbolic, emotionally layered, and off-kilter worlds that take audiences on an emotional odyssey, allowing them to encounter aspects of themselves that lie beyond everyday awareness. Her movement draws from ballet, contemporary dance, and dance theatre, shifting from naturalistic intimacy to a macabre humour and a joyous expression. Fascinated by the tension between the naturalistic and the dreamlike, she views her process as an opportunity for connection and understanding, creating an exchange between herself, dancers, and audience, and championing a shared humanity.
“I see movement as a unique access point to human experience; it has an ability to express the abstract, where words cannot; to distill something which is complex and multi-faceted, into something which is instantly felt.”
